Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

IHW offers this specialized treatment for PTSD and C-PTSD. CPT is an evidenced-based approach based on identifying, challenging, and reframing stuck points that develop when we have had a traumatic experience. These stuck points then shape how we think about ourselves, the world, and our relationships with others. When an individual has PTSD, their brain chemistry changes and parts of their brain have short-circuited, so to speak. As a result, the individual is in a constant, heightened state of arousal, causing symptoms that are exhausting and disruptive to daily living. While CPT is focused on changing cognitions, clients typically experience a reduction in physical symptoms as well.
